One of the Best Offloads Ever? It might well be.
There have been many offloads in Rugby during the years, but this might well be one of the best offloads ever.
In this video we see South African Rugby player, Dillyn Leyds, who is playing here for the Stormers during a Super Rugby game, with an amazing pass. At first it might look like it was pure luck, but the more I look at it, the more convinced I am that it was intentional.
It all starts with an intercept from Cheslin Kolbe who kicks the ball forward as he gets tackled. Leyds then gives chase and ultimately gathers the ball. For a second there it looks like he might get away but is then ankle tapped by an opposition player. And this is where the magic happens.
In what can only be described as a powerful back flick, he sends the ball straight into teammate SP Marais’ hands. Marais goes on to score an easy try. Watch it in action!
So what do you think? Luck or skill? If it was skill it showed great presence of mind to execute a flawless pass.
He did roll a bit before passing, so he should clearly have seen his teammates on his flank. Very impressive!
