Mathieu Bastareaud is an unstoppable Juggernaut.
Mathieu Bastareaud is the focus of this video from Rugby Zone.
I must say I haven’t really seen him in action until I saw this video but man, am I glad I did! What a machine! And to think he plays in the number 13 jersey. It is seldom you see a person of his strength and size in the outside center position.
Growing up Bastareaud played for Creteil Rugby youth squads before moving to Massy. At Massy he progressed through the junior academy and played in the 3rd division club, SU Massy. Two seasons later he moved to Stade Français after gaining national attention.
Since then and before moving to Toulon in 2011 he was in the 2009 Six Nations squad for France. He was also involved as a key figure int the 2010 Six Nations squad. He was included in the 2009 tour to New Zeeland and Australia and then in 2010 he was included in the 2010 French Barbarians squad playing against Tonga.
After a two years absence he started in 2017 against New Zealand in a 38-18 loss. Bastareaud had not made it onto the international arena since the World Cup of 2015. That year France lost convincingly to New Zealand 62-13 in the quarter final. Since then he has struggled with form and injury.
